Set Up (Part 2)

Movie Intro: When I was younger, I wanted to be a priest. I was going into battle, to save man's soul from the evil of the world. But as I got older, I saw the world for what it really was. I wasn't so much who I was going to save, but what was going to save the world from me. As I lay there, gasping for my last breath, I knew God gave me a second chance, but I was too stupid to take it. I was gonna get what's mine.

This raised important theological and philosophical questions. A large chunk of the movie was spent exploring a wide array of existential questions.

Conversations With A Priest:

Priest: Forgive me for asking were you close?
Priest: Yeah we're like brothers
Priest: Then rest assured he is in a better place now.
50: How do you know, have you been dead before?
Priest: Their are many paths to God, my son. I pray that your's won't be too difficult.

Another Conversation With The Priest:
50: You really believe all that shit father. I mean if he made good, then he also made bad, right?
Priest: Do you believe in free will? The idea that you are free to make your own choice in this world?
50: Of course.
Priest: Then how could you make a choice between right and wrong,
if God  didn’t offer the two extremes. The path to God is based
on your ability, as thinking feeling being, to make the correct decisions.
If everything was perfect, then you wouldn't be on earth.
You'd already be in heaven.
50: You don’t live in my world, Father.

Later on, Sonny (50 Cent) converses with a waitress:
50: Slow night tonight, huh
Waitress: Yeah, well it pays the bills. I'm really a singer. I’m not going to be here much longer. I pray every night that God get me a record contract
50: Does he hear you?
Waitress: Of course he does. I just have to wait my turn.

Did you notice I didn't mention anything regarding the movie's plot yet?
You are an astute observer, indeed. I'll get to that in Part 3 (or will I).
