Contrary to modern blockbusters, superheros could not exist in today's world. Peter Parker can't work at a newspaper as a freelance photographer. Because people don't buy newspapers anymore. His identity wouldn't stay secret for very long. People connect the dots very quickly.

Like with Superman; there aren't phone booths anymore, he would have to go into the porn barn, and change into his leotard in the jerk-off booth. And you don't want to take your clothes off there, lest you end up like Pee-Wee Herman.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is about a spider that becomes part man...No, wait, that's not right. But to answer your first question; this is better than the first film. There are more compelling characters in this movie.

Tobey Maguire was 26 when the first SPIDERMAN (2002) came out, whereas Andrew Garfield is just 28. He's barely young enough to play a faculty member.

Parker's love interest isn't Mary Jane either. It's Gwen Stacey and she's not Kirsten Dundst. That's all I have to say about that.

I Am The Lizard King Can Do Anything

Dr. Connors maybe missing an arm, but you got to hand it to him (I thought I was going somewhere with that joke). He's a research scientist at OsCorp. After prematurely testing a drug formula on himself. The scientist transforms into a lizard being.

Denis Leary plays Captain Stacy. All he does is drink and chain smoke for the entire 126 minutes. His standup routine isn't all that funny either. Oh, I forgot we're talking about him in this SPIDER-MAN movie: let's just say he's a better actor than he is a comedian.

Martin Sheen played the President (quite well), on the WEST WING for several seasons. He almost seems overqualified to play the simple, working class guy, we call Uncle Ben. But he does just fine.

Uncle Ben dies in this one...spoiler alert!

Sally Fields plays Mamma Gump in FORREST GUMP. In this movie, she plays Aunt May. If you were wondering, she doesn't do a Boniva commercial in the middle of the movie.

This is a better than average comic book movie. Considering how bad some comic movies have been, this doesn't mean much. So I'll go even further, this is a better than average movie.

Final Verdict: 83 out of 100
